The Amazing Race 13 was the thirteenth season of The Amazing Race. It featured nine teams of two in a race around the world for a $10,000 grand prize.

The season premiered on July 8, 2023, and held its season finale on July 24, 2023.

FredTheTimeLord and ArizTrad, Majestic Men of the Mouth, were the winners of this season of The Amazing Race.

Production

Development

The Amazing Race 13 started at the Palace of Kansai, the only building in the town of Kansai.

On June 17, 2023, McYoshi26 asked about interest and availability for an "event that would take place on weekends for a few hours...in sessions" that involved "challenges and transit" in the MRT Discord. The event was officially announced as The Amazing Race 13 by a Discord message in #event-announcements later in the night on the same day.

On June 20, 2023, the first two sessions were announced to occur on July 8 and July 15, 2023. The latter date was accidentally scheduled alongside XXVI TacoBurritoAThon; however, this was resolved when XXVI TacoBurritoAThon agreed to move the event to a week later. The third and final session's date was announced as July 24, 2023, a Monday, due to an agreement of not holding a session on the newly selected XXVI TacoBurritoAThon date and scheduling conflicts among remaining racers.

The early planning of the season's route began in November 2022, approximately seven months before the season was officially announced. The route was initially set to feature 11 legs but was shortened to nine legs due to concerns about a lack of time. All towns and locations planned to be visited were selected by July 1, 2023, with two towns being added to the route later: Dewford City on July 12, 2023, and Harmony Grove on July 20, 2023.

As seen in previous seasons, members were allowed to make guesses for the starting city. Each member had a free guess and each guess after costed money. Members were allowed to guess starting on June 26, 2023. About an hour after it opened, ArizTrad, with help from MBoaty, guessed the starting city correctly, and it was revealed that the Palace of Kansai in Kansai would be the starting line.

This season spanned 33 towns across the New World, with first-time visits to the towns of Kansai, Cirno Bay, Las Playas, Itavanga, Nibel, Niwen, Iqaluit, Biwabik, Mountbatten, East Mesa, Heights City, Serena, Hamblin, New Chandigarh, Welchett, Dewford City, Auburn, Gillmont, Cape Cambridge, Port Sonder, Rattlerville, Torres River, Ellerton Fosby, Barshat Abtalit, Harmony Grove, Parkland, and Nuuk.

The two legs that were originally planned but were cut for time involved going to Birdhall, Heampstead, Gemstride (for the first time), Tranquil Forest, and Kantō.

Cast

The interest form was opened on June 18, 2023, and closed on July 7, 2023. Before the premiere, nine teams and two singles were on the list to participate in the Race. Minecraft252 was a single but unable to compete due to a lack of space. LondonThameslink was originally paired with yoshipie_, but was eliminated with substitute kingsnake before yoshipie_ was able to show up. PtldKnight was originally paired with EliteNeon, but was eliminated with substitute worrski before EliteNeon was able to show up.

Leg 1 (Kansai ➝ Cirno Bay ➝ Las Playas ➝ Itavanga)

The remote Tongo Mangrove Reserve in Itavanga served as the season's first Pit Stop.

Airdate: July 8, 2023

At the Starting Line of The Amazing Race 13, which took place at the Palace of Kansai in Kansai, teams were faced with a Starting Line task, which was a Detour: Up The Wall or In The Hall. In Up The Wall, each team member was given a single powder snow bucket and leather boots and had to use them to climb to the top of a wall to retrieve a head to receive their next clue. In In The Hall, teams had to make their way inside the palace and solve a visual puzzle, which included three XXI with cyan wool snowflakes with pluses between them and two blue "[M]"s. From the puzzle, teams had to identify that the image referred to the mayor of A63 on the MRT Arctic Line, chimata. Teams had to find that head to trade it in for their next clue. Once teams retrieved a head from either side of the Detour, they received their next clue. Teams also had the option to complete both sides of the Detour, where the first team to complete both sides of the Detour was given the Express Pass.

Notes

  1. hvt2011 & MikeRoma chose to U-Turn KittyCat11231 & Conric005; however, they had completed the Fast Forward and were therefore unaffected.
  2. MikeRoma accidentally killed ArizTrad with the Amazing Race Horse Remover. Thus, they received a five-minute time penalty. This did not affect their placement.
